    Slate Cleaning & Sealing
Slate floors are the most common flooring restoration we come across in a domestic setting. Being one of the strongest types of natural stone and available in many different forms and colours (including our own Welsh slate), you end up with quite a unique look on your floor which makes it a hugely popular option for homeowners.

    Our slate floor restoration includes:
    Stripping away any old seals
Deep cleaning all of the tiles & grout
Protecting the floor with the highest quality slate sealers

A colour enhancing seal is recommended for most types of slates as it will bring out its natural colours.
    Victorian Tile Cleaning & Sealing
Along with slate flooring, the Victorian era red & black quarry floor tiles make up a large percentage of our domestic floor restoration.
With many of the floors being laid well over a 100 years ago, these tiles have lasted the test of time and can look fantastic with our restoration service.

    Our Victorian floor restoration includes:
    Stripping away any old seals
Deep cleaning all of the tiles & grout
Protecting the floor with the highest quality sealers

A colour enhancing seal is recommended for these types of tiles and this can be achieved with either an impregnating sealer or wax finish.
    Porcelain & Ceramic Cleaning
Ceramic and Porcelain tiles are man made and usually require less maintenance than natural stone tiles.

Ceramic tiles are usually better suited to walls as they are generally not as tough as Porcelain tiles, but they will still hold up well in areas with not so much traffic and are finished with a hard wearing glaze

Porcelain tiles are generally more durable and tougher than ceramic tiles due to being a lot denser. Porcelain tiles are a great choice for higher traffic areas like kitchens and hallways domestically or shops, supermarkets etc.. commercially.
    Travertine Cleaning and Sealing
Travertine is a form of limestone that forms near mineral springs. This is why some of the tiles have holes in them or you may notice holes begin to appear over time where the filler applied in the factory begins to fall out
Travertine flooring comes in a range of different natural colours and patterns that creates a truly unique effect on your floor although It can be a difficult floor to maintain to keep it looking its best. DBP Floorcare can help keep your travertine floor in great condition.

Our Tiled & Stone Floor Cleaning & Sealing Process

As every floor is different, there will be variations in the chemicals, equipment and processes we use to restore your hard floor, but below is a guide of what we would typically do to restore your natural stone and tiled flooring to its former glory.

Step 1: If we need to use a stripping chemical, we will mask up the surrounding areas and open up windows for ventilation.

Step 2: If the stripping chemical is needed, we dispense a small amount of the chemical onto the floor and leave to dwell for several minutes so it can break down the old seal.

Step 3: After agitating, we then dispense our specialist cleaning chemicals and leave for a further few minutes to dwell.

Step 4: Once the dirt begins to start breaking up, we agitate the tiles and grout with a rotary machine with attached brushes.

Step 5: The slurry, dirt and grime is then removed with our industrial wet vacs. We repeat the above steps across all of the hard floor.

Step 6: We thoroughly rinse the floor with water to neutralise the area and use speed dryers to help with the drying out process.

Step 7: Once your flooring has thoroughly dried out we will then seal the floor (the type of seals available will be discussed during the initial quote visit). Depending on the tile/stone type, this could be within a couple of hours for less porous materials or up to a few days for very porous materials (again, this will be discussed during the initial quote visit),

Step 8: If you have a natural stone floor that can be polished, we will begin this process after step 6 - click the link below for more information on our polishing services.

Types of Stone Sealers and How They Work

    Penetrating / Impregnating Sealers

They penetrate deep into the stone floor. Their purpose is to block contaminants from entering the substrate of the stone while at the same time allowing it to expel interior moisture. They are therefore “breathable” or vapour permeable.

    Topical / Wax Finishes

Wax / topical finishes sit on top  of the tiles and act as a surface barrier, making the tiles stain & water resistant. Most of these are water based products which are made from polymers so that they can easily be removed with a compatible stripper.
